Fire at Egypt's police complex contained after hours

Cairo (Web Desk): A huge fire erupted at a police complex in the Egyptian city of Ismailia and resulted in 38 people being injured, early on Monday.

According to international media, no deaths have been reported over the blaze that happened early on Monday, but hospitals were placed on alert.

The fire has been contained after several hours, according to state media. But the cause of the explosion is not yet known.

Videos on social media showed flames blazing from the city’s security directorate, and it appeared the building’s main front had collapsed.

24 of 26 wounded, suffered from “asphyxiation” and two from burns, local media reported citing the health ministry.

The health ministry deployed 50 ambulances to the scene, which were joined by military emergency services including two planes, according to state media.

In 2022, there were more than 49,300 fires in Egypt which resulted in 203 deaths and injuries to 855 people.
