Section 144 extended across Punjab for another seven days

Lahore (Web Desk): The Punjab Home Department has once again extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another seven days. According to a spokesperson for the department, the decision aims to ensure public safety and address potential security threats.

Under Section 144, all forms of protests, sit-ins, and similar public gatherings will remain prohibited throughout Punjab. The order also bans the assembly of four or more people in public places, the display of weapons, use of loudspeakers, and the publication or distribution of provocative or sectarian material.

The spokesperson clarified that the restriction will not apply to wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, or burial rituals. Additionally, government officials performing official duties and members of the judiciary are exempt from the order.

It is worth noting that Section 144 had previously been extended in Punjab due to persistent security concerns, as public gatherings and rallies were feared to be potential soft targets for terrorist activities. The Home Department emphasized that these preventive measures are being taken purely in the interest of public safety.
