Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz reiterates commitment to protecting journalists’ rights

Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has issued an important statement reaffirming her commitment to protecting journalists’ rights and promoting freedom of the press. She pledged to put an end to all forms of violence and injustice against media professionals.

In her message on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that “press freedom is the cornerstone of democracy,” adding that journalists are the “guardians of social justice.”

She further stated that a free and independent press is essential for a strong democratic society and highlighted that her government is taking concrete steps to ensure the safety and rights of journalists. She also mentioned that the government is determined to provide housing for displaced journalists and fully supports those who stand by truth and justice.

Maryam Nawaz said that observing this day is a way to remember journalists who have been killed or faced violence for telling the truth. She assured that journalism and journalists are safe in Punjab, adding that no cases of murder or violence against journalists have occurred — nor will they be allowed to happen.
