Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi says US must change 'threatening tone'

Tehran (Web Desk): Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has confirmed Pakistan’s pivotal diplomatic role in efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the United States, stating that Tehran remains committed to diplomacy but expects Washington to abandon what he described as its hostile approach.

In his latest remarks, Araghchi revealed that Iran has formally designated Pakistan as its intermediary for indirect communication and any potential future negotiations with the United States (US).

He said Tehran has placed full confidence in Pakistan to facilitate the exchange of messages and assist in diplomatic engagement between the two sides.

The Iranian foreign minister strongly criticized Washington’s posture toward Tehran, saying that while the door to diplomacy remains open, threats and negotiations cannot proceed simultaneously.

According to Araghchi, the US must first change what he called its ‘humiliating and threatening’ tone against Iran before any meaningful dialogue can begin.

He further stated that if both sides eventually decide to move forward with formal negotiations, an official announcement would be made in due course, with Pakistan expected to play a prominent role in the process.

Araghchi stressed that Iran seeks peace and stability in the region and views Pakistan’s mediation efforts as an important part of achieving that objective.

The foreign minister also made it clear that Tehran would not participate in any negotiation process that compromises Iran’s national dignity or undermines its strategic interests.

Foreign affairs analysts are viewing Araghchi’s statement as a significant boost to Pakistan’s diplomatic standing, noting that Iran has effectively acknowledged Pakistan as a trusted intermediary in dealings with one of its principal rivals, the United States.
