Islamabad (Staff Report): The government reacted angrily to the remarks by a three-member bench of Supreme Court bench, linking the ruling party to the Sicilian mafia.
“Such uncalled-for remarks are against the oath and code of conduct of judges themselves,” the PML-N government, through a statement, criticised the judges.
Without naming the judge, the spokesman said it was unfortunate that one of the judges labelled the government the “Sicilian Mafia” and called the Attorney General for Pakistan their representative.
“Such remarks have damaged Pakistan’s identity and sanctity in the world,” a statement issued by an unnamed spokesman said.
On Thursday, a three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan was hearing the contempt case, initiated suo motu, against sacked Senator Nehal Hashmi for his remarks where he appeared to threaten the members of the joint investigation team (JIT) and the judiciary for investigating Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family on allegations stemming from the Panama case.
