Death of 14 children in Kahna roof collapse: Preliminary investigation report submitted to Punjab CM Maryam

Lahore (Web Desk): An initial investigation report into the tragic roof collapse at a tuition centre in the Kahna area, which claimed the lives of 14 children, has been submitted to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

According to the report, the collapse was caused by the building's weakened structure being subjected to additional weight after soil and debris were placed on the roof.

Investigators said dumping earth on the T-R girder roof while children were inside the building was an extremely negligent act, as the already fragile structure was unable to withstand the extra load.

Preliminary findings revealed that a female teacher and around 20 children were present inside the tuition centre when the roof gave way. Most of the victims died after suffering severe head injuries.

The report stated that, so far, no negligence on the part of any government official has been established.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said tuition centres must also ensure strict compliance with the prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent such incidents in the future.
