Quetta (Web Desk): Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed has said that courts are independent and no one is allowed to interfere in the affairs of the judiciary.
Addressing a dinner meeting hosted in his honour by Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) at the Balochistan High Court on Wednesday, the CJP said that the issue of missing persons was a grave problem.
The CJP said that the high courts have worked on the cases of missing persons and due to their efforts several have returned to their homes however, many remain missing and we will not compromise over it but will play role to address the issue.
A commission had already been set up in this regard. The basic rights of the people would not be taken away. No one would be allowed to insult the people.
“The Supreme Court (SC) is the guardian of the fundamental rights of Pakistani people,” Justice Gulzar Ahmed said.
He added that the constitutional rights of Balochistan cannot be compromised at any cost.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court Jamal Khan Mandokhel said that there are five benches in seven divisions of the province but unfortunately there is no infrastructure.
“But now we will restore not only the writ of the government but also ensure justice in the province,” Justice Mandokhel said.
Addressing the gathering, Member PBC Kamran Murtaza Advocate said that judges not only decide cases but they are also defenders of the constitution.
Many cases have been pending for last many years due to shortage of lawyers since the incident of explosion at Balochistan Bar. He added that the clients were suffering due to long delays in cases.
Meanwhile, during hearing of Balochistan water shortage case, Justice Gulzar Ahmed at the Quetta Registry, said, "I have been told that 700 dams have been built in Balochistan to resolve water issue.
During the hearing, Public Health Engineering secretary told the bench that work had been underway on 100 small dams in the province. The shortage of water in Balochistan will come to an end with the completion of dam projects, he maintained.
The CJP said that construction of five big dams would reduce the water crisis in the province. Justice Gulzar said that there was a big problem of water in Gwadar and he had ordered to functionalize the Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants there to mitigate the issue.
