Scandal rocks UHS as VC faces allegations of misusing staff and public resources

Lahore (Web Desk) The Vice Chancellor of the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, is facing serious allegations of abuse of authority and misuse of public resources for personal gain, raising concerns about the institution’s reputation and governance.

The issue came to light after footage aired on Neo News program “Pakistan Poochta Hai”, showing university employees engaged in non-official work.

According to credible sources, several university employees have allegedly been forced to work at Dr. Rathore’s personal farmhouse and agricultural land, located approximately 125 kilometers from Lahore.

These employees are reportedly transported daily using official vehicles and fuel, costing the university millions of rupees each month.

Reports suggest that staff members are assigned to perform physical labour at the farmhouse during official working hours, and those who refuse are threatened with termination.

Meanwhile, ‘Daily Nai Baat’ also claimed to have obtained a list of the workers involved, which includes plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, and air-conditioning mechanics identified as Sadi, Rameez, Usman, Hafeez, Nadeem, Umar, Ramzan, Usama, Silvester, and Wayne.

Professor Shahid Malik, President of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), criticized the alleged actions, stating that student tuition fees are meant to support education and research, not personal projects. He termed the use of university employees for private work as both a financial irregularity and a moral breach of professional ethics.

Legal experts have noted that if proven true, the allegations would constitute corruption and misuse of public resources under Pakistani law, potentially leading to severe legal consequences.

Human rights organizations have also taken notice of the issue, calling for an impartial investigation to ensure the protection of workers’ rights.

Within academic circles, both faculty and students have expressed deep concern, warning that the controversy could damage the university’s standing and credibility.

Despite multiple attempts to obtain a response, neither the UHS administration nor Vice Chancellor Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore has issued an official statement, while repeated efforts to contact the university’s media director have also gone unanswered.
