Govt committed to facilitate global investors in digital, telecom sectors: PM Shehbaz 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday emphasized that the government is committed to offering maximum support to investors in Pakistan’s digital and telecommunications sectors to boost the nation’s digital economy.

He made these remarks during a meeting with global digital operator VEON Group, Kaan Terzioglu and his delegation at the PM House in Islamabad.

The prime minister said, “the recent successful auction of 5G spectrum in Pakistan reflects that the government is moving in the right direction”.

PM Shehbaz explained that Pakistan is following a comprehensive approach to attract foreign investment and encourage innovation in the information technology sector.

He added that promoting a cashless economy through effective use of IT is a top priority, and that digitizing economic processes will improve transparency across the board.

Following the recent 5G auction, he said all relevant authorities are working closely to ensure telecom operators can provide high-quality internet services to the public.

The prime minister also highlighted the role of Pakistan’s youth, noting that their active involvement in IT and digital platforms can strengthen the economy and enhance service delivery.

PM Shehbaz said that growing interest among young people in technology and telecom is drawing international investment to Pakistan.

During the meeting, Kaan Terzioglu expressed appreciation for the government’s initiatives under PM Shehbaz to foster a fully digital and cashless economy and stated that VEON intends to increase its investment in Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, CEO of Jazz World Aamir Ibrahim, and other senior officials.
