Karachi (Web Desk): A district and sessions court on Thursday acquitted a female driver accused of murder following a fatal accident on Karsaz Road that claimed the lives of two individuals.
This decision came after the families of the victims presented a "reconciliation agreement" in court.
On August 19, Natasha Danisha’s luxury vehicle crashed into multiple cars near the Pakistan Maritime Museum in Karachi, resulting in the deaths of 26-year-old Aamna Arif and her father, 60-year-old Imran Arif.
The court granted bail to the driver after the two parties reached a settlement.
Earlier on September 6, she had already been released on bail after the victims’ family expressed their forgiveness, stating that the incident was accidental.
An affidavit submitted in court reflected their desire for reconciliation, saying, “We have settled matters between us and pardoned the suspect for the sake of Allah, who is the Most Kind and Most Merciful.”
Initially, the driver was charged with rash driving and manslaughter due to the collision that resulted in the tragic deaths and injuries to two others.
She also faced separate charges under the Prohibition (Enforcement of Hadd) Order (PEHO) 1979, as her medical report indicated she was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the accident.
Although a judicial magistrate and a sessions court denied her bail in the drug-related case, the Sindh High Court later granted her release after considering arguments from both sides.
The court’s detailed ruling highlighted contradictions between the blood and urine tests regarding the presence of narcotics, indicating the need for further examination.
The judgment also noted that the suspect is a mother of three school-aged children, emphasizing their need for her support, especially after she had spent six weeks in jail.
