Islamabad (Staff Report): Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been shifted back to Adiala jail from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

Earlier on Tuesday, Punjab’s caretaker home minister Shaukat Javed said that Sharif is feeling much better after getting medical treatment and there is nothing alarming to report about his health.

On Sunday, caretaker government of Punjab has shifted Nawaz Sharif to PIMS after doctors have suggested to move former premier to coronary care unit (CCU) for better treatment as his health deteriorates in Adila Jail.

The medical board headed by Dr Ejaz Qadeer and comprising cardiologist Dr Naeem Malik, Medical Specialist Dr. Shaji Siddiqui, neurologist Dr Sohail Tanvir and Dr Mashood carried out medical checkup of the former PM after he complained about pain in his arm and heart.

PIMS team said that Nawaz Sharif is unwell as he is suffering from heart disease, glyceride, cholesterol and diabetes and Nawaz’s ECG was not satisfactory.

Last week, a five-member medical board of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) that examined Nawaz Sharif in jail concluded that the ousted prime minister was not suffering from any acute problem.

The board constituted by PIMS consisted of Pims Joint Executive Director Dr Ejaz Qadeer, Head of Cardiology Department Dr Muhammad Naeem Malik, Head of Nephrology Department Dr Sohail Tanveer, Head of Gastroenterology Dr Mashood Ali, and Professor of General Medicine D. Shajee Ahmed Siddiqi.

The board was constituted on request of jail authorities to examine the ousted premier for a second opinion after examination by two cardiologists of the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology found him dehydrated, suggesting hospitalisation to avoid cardiac and diabetic complications.

They warned that the patient could suffer acute renal failure due to dehydration and poor sleep amid humid weather.

However, the medical board has concluded that blood tests and urine test were normal except his urea level.

Nawaz was arrested along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz upon arrival and the Allama Iqbal International Airport from London on July 13 and was shifted to Adiala Jail where he is serving the sentence awarded to him in the Avenfield reference case by the accountability court.
