Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday launched Lahore's first-ever fully electric bus service.

According to details, the fleet includes buses that can seat 30 people and accommodate up to 80 passengers in total. The buses are equipped with anti-slip flooring to enhance safety, and cameras have been installed to address concerns around harassment.

To ensure smooth operations, a network of nine charging stations has been set up, and each bus is designed to travel up to 250 kilometers on a single charge.

A digital wallet and card system will be implemented for a seamless, cashless travel experience.

The service will initially cover a 21 km route stretching from the Railway Station to Green Town, with buses running every 9 minutes starting from mid-February.

Plans also include the construction of 42 modern bus shelters to make the commute more comfortable.

The service is expected to serve around 17,000 passengers daily.

On the occasion the Punjab CM also reviewed plans to equip bus stations with solar-powered fans, water coolers, and surveillance cameras.

She emphasized the importance of specialized training for the 70 drivers who will be operating the buses.

Meanwhile, discussions were also held regarding the introduction of electric taxis in the region as part of ongoing efforts to promote eco-friendly transportation options in Punjab.
