Assistant commissioner injured in Upper Kurram gun attack

Upper Kurram (Web Desk): Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) of Kurram, Saeed Manan Khan, was injured in a shooting incident in the Upper Kurram tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday.

The attack took place in the Boshehra area while Khan was on a visit to enforce a ceasefire agreement, accompanied by police officers.

According to Dr Mir Hassan Jan, medical superintendent at District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Parachinar, Khan was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

A ceasefire had been agreed upon by the warring tribes just last month, following months of violence.
However, the fragile peace was already disrupted when Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud was also injured in a shooting.

Despite these challenges, supplies began to flow into Kurram once peace was partially restored.
Authorities are taking swift action, with a large police contingent now conducting a search operation to find those responsible for the attack.

Meanwhile, a major gathering has begun in Kohat, aimed at establishing lasting peace in Kurram.

This jirga is attended by several high-ranking officials, including Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Information, and top military and law enforcement leaders. It includes tribal elders from both Upper and Lower Kurram, who are hoping to foster reconciliation between the conflicting parties.

Earlier this month, violence had escalated again, with a soldier losing his life in an attack on an aid convoy, though security forces responded and eliminated six militants.

Despite these challenges, the ongoing efforts to restore peace in the region continue, even as the situation remains volatile.
