Islamabad (Web Desk): Dr Sania Nishtar of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced to resign from her Senate seat.
According to sources, Nishtar has step down as senator due to a new position with an international organization based in Geneva.
She has submitted her resignation to the Senate Secretariat.
Dr Sania Nishtar is a notable physician, cardiologist, author, and activist.
In 2024, she took on the role of CEO at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
Previously, she served as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, where she held the title of Federal Minister and led the Ehsaas Programme.
Dr Sania Nishtar was elected to the Senate representing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during the 2021 elections.
She has extensive experience in public service, having been part of the interim federal cabinet in 2013, where she was responsible for public health, education, and science.
In addition to her political career, Nishtar chairs the International Advisory Board of the United Nations International Institute for Global Health and is a member of the International Advisory Board on Global Health for the German Federal Government.
