Islamabad (Staff Report): United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has included eight Pakistani sites in its list of World Heritage Sites accepted on Pakistan’s recommendation.

The eight sites suggested by Pakistan were Hingol Cultural Landscape in Balochistan, Cholistan’s Derawar Fort, Nagarparkar Cultural Landscape in Sindh, Central Karakoram National Park and Deosai National Park in Gilgit-Baltistan, Ziarat Juniper Forest and Karez System Cultural Landscape in Balochistan and the Khewra Salt Range in Punjab.

The Department of Archaeology and Museums (DOAM) prepared a list of significant locations holding great importance for Pakistan including above mentioned locations, and recently UNESCO has accepted their proposal.

Once UNESCO formally announces the approval the archaeology and museums department will start the documentation process.

The process will be completed within two to three years.
