Islamabad (Web Desk): The Foreign Office (FO) has said that Pakistan remains actively engaged with both the United States and Iran, aiming to support peace and stability in the region and beyond.
Addressing the weekly press briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, FO Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stressed that diplomatic engagement continues to function effectively, noting that “the process of diplomacy is ongoing and very much active.”
He added that Pakistan ensures complete sincerity and clarity when passing any message through official diplomatic channels to the relevant parties.
Andrabi also expressed hope for a peaceful resolution between Washington and Tehran through dialogue, saying Pakistan continues to support direct negotiations between both sides and looks forward to improved and stable relations between the two countries.
On regional security matters, the FO spokesperson strongly criticized what he described as unprovoked firing and shelling by Afghan forces along border regions of South Waziristan near Bannu district, including Angoor Adda.
He said that authorities are taking necessary steps to safeguard civilian populations and prevent further escalation along the border.
Responding to a question on Kashmir, Tahir Andrabi raised concern over the ongoing imprisonment of Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik, as well as the re-arrest and continued legal proceedings against veteran leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah in a long-standing case.
He urged the global community to take notice of the situation and to encourage India to release Shabbir Shah, Yasin Malik, and other political detainees held for their advocacy of human rights and political freedoms.
Andrabi further condemned the reported closure and sealing of Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), stating that such actions reflect a wider pattern aimed at weakening the cultural, social, and religious identity of the Kashmiri people.
He added that these developments indicate a rising trend of Islamophobia in the region and across India, which he linked to what he described as an increasingly far-right Hindutva-driven approach.
