Washington (Web Desk): US President Donald Trump has stated that any agreement with Iran would only be accepted if it aligns with American interests, saying negotiations are a key part of his duties and claiming that Washington is in a strong position during ongoing diplomatic talks with Tehran.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said diplomacy was part of his responsibility, adding, “my job and I do it,” while also describing Iranian negotiators as highly capable in discussions. He noted that despite major differences, dialogue between both sides continues.
He further asserted that the United States holds significant leverage in the process, saying America “has all the cards” following what he described as Iran’s military setback.
Trump claimed that Iran’s air and naval strength had been largely eliminated, though he suggested its ground forces were still partially intact.
Warning against prolonged conflicts, Trump said extended wars that cause widespread destruction can take decades for nations to recover from. “If everything is destroyed, a nation cannot rebuild for 40 years,” he remarked.
Reiterating his stance, he emphasized that any final deal would depend entirely on US interests and would only proceed if it delivered clear benefits to Washington.
His comments come amid ongoing tensions and intermittent negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security matters.
