Washington (Web Desk): The United States (US) and Iran have reportedly agreed to halt military actions against each other, while important talks on resolving disputes over maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz are expected to be held tomorrow in Doha, Qatar’s capital.
According to US news website Axios, both sides have agreed to temporarily stop military strikes and continue technical-level talks to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
Reports suggest that during negotiations held last week in Switzerland, both countries reached an understanding on a memorandum of understanding.
However, differing interpretations of certain clauses related to maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz recently led to renewed tensions.
Sources say that the US has shown willingness to lift a naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports, while Iran has assured full cooperation to ensure the safe passage of commercial shipping through the strategic waterway.
According to US officials, the head of the American technical delegation, Nick Stewart, will also participate in the Doha talks.
Earlier, both sides had agreed to establish a direct hotline for monitoring maritime traffic and communication in the Strait of Hormuz, although the system has not yet become operational.
The White House has not issued an immediate official response regarding these developments.
