Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan on Monday has summoned the Afghan Chargé d'Affaires to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoAF) in Islamabad and a strong demarche was issued regarding the Karachi terrorist attack.
Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said this while responding to media queries regarding Pakistan's demarche to the Afghan Taliban regime following the Karachi terrorist attack.
He said that a similar demarche was conveyed by Pakistan's Ambassador, Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani, to the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The FO spokesperson said that these demarches were issued in light of the fact that Afghan nationals, including one apprehended alive, participated in this attack, proving yet again that Afghan soil and Afghan nationals continue to be used to orchestrate terrorist attacks inside Pakistan.
The development follows attack on a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) headquarters in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area which left three Rangers personnel martyred and four others were injured.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack was carried out by militants associated with the Indian-backed outfit Jamaatul Ahrar (JuA). Security forces responded immediately, killing three of the attackers during the operation while taking a fourth suspect into custody alive.
As per the security officials, the arrested suspect was identified as Usman Ali, an Afghan citizen, who entered Pakistan from Jalalabad around a week before the attack.
During initial interrogation, he admitted to being a member of Jamaatul Ahrar and stated that the group's commander based in Afghanistan is Ahrar Moulvi.
Officials further said that that the suspect disclosed he and his accomplices had undergone terrorist training at camps inside Afghanistan before being assigned to execute the attack in Pakistan.
Pakistan has repeatedly called on Afghan authorities to ensure that their territory is not used by militant groups to stage attacks against neighbouring countries.
Islamabad has consistently urged Kabul to take firm and effective action against terrorist organisations operating from Afghan soil.
