Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly denied media reports claiming that party founder Imran Khan has barred his two sons from visiting Pakistan and participating in any political activity for his release. PTI's central spokesperson, Waqar Akram, dismissed these reports as false, stating that Imran Khan has never stopped his sons from coming to Pakistan.
Imran Khan's sons, Suleman Khan 28 and Qasim Khan 26, first raised their voices against their father’s imprisonment in May 2023.
Earlier this month, Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khan, stated that Suleman and Qasim would go to the United States (US) and return to Pakistan to join the movement for their father's release.
Former premier Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023, is serving a sentence in Adiala Jail in connection with the 190 million-pound corruption case and facing pending charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act related to the protests of May 9, 2023.
Following the media reports claiming that Imran Khan had told journalists in jail that his sons would not come to Pakistan or participate in any protests, PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram quickly refuted these claims.
In a post on social media handle X, Akram stated that Imran Khan has never stopped his children from returning to Pakistan and that they will come back soon.
Although the government has not provided an official statement regarding Imran Khan’s sons coming to Pakistan, State Minister for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, mentioned that if they decide to visit Pakistan, there will be no obstacles in their way, and they will be welcomed.
However, State Minister for Law and Justice, Barrister Aqeel Malik, clarified that as Suleman and Qasim Khan are British citizens, they cannot legally participate in local political activities. He also mentioned that if they violate the terms of their visa, it could be revoked.
Leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have offered conflicting views on whether Imran Khan’s sons should be allowed to visit Pakistan. Senator Irfan Siddiqui suggested that they should be allowed to come and conduct their activities within the boundaries of the law.
This issue remains a topic of political debate, and further legal complications may arise in the future.
