Islamabad (Web Desk): Justice (retd) Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice (retd) Mazhar Alam Miankhel took oath as ad hoc judges of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa administered the oath to the newly appointed ad hoc judges in a ceremony held at the apex court premises in the federal capital.

The event was attended by prominent figures including Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan, various law officers, lawyers, and court staff.

Earlier, the federal law ministry issued a notification confirming their appointment for a one-year term, following approval from President Asif Ali Zardari.

"The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is pleased to appoint Mr Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Mr Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, former judges of the Supreme Court, as ad hoc judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to attend the sittings of the court for a period of one year with effect from the date they enter upon their offices," the notification stated.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) had recommended these appointments to address the workload and ensure the smooth functioning of the Supreme Court.

Earlier, Justice (retd) Miankhel expressed his inability to accept the offer, but later agreed to re-join the top court.
