Islamabad (Web Desk): The federal cabinet has approved the auction of the 5G spectrum, paving the way for the launch of 5G services in the country. According to sources, the 5G service is expected to be rolled out in major cities within six months of the spectrum auction.

Officials stated that the federal government will soon issue policy guidelines for the 5G spectrum auction, outlining the objectives, scope, and conditions of the auction. The guidelines will also specify the reserve price for each spectrum band.

The government has decided to keep the spectrum prices lower based on the recommendations of consultants to speed up the delivery of 5G services. Sources confirmed that, with lower prices, all telecom operators have shown interest in participating in the auction.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has completed preparations for the auction, and the 5G spectrum auction is expected to take place by mid-February 2026. PTA will issue a detailed Information Memorandum (IM) soon, which will include the auction process, bidding rules, eligibility criteria, and the spectrum limits and payment schedule.

The government is encouraging telecom companies to invest in infrastructure by keeping the spectrum prices low, ensuring the swift delivery of 5G services.
