Lahore (Web Desk): The 20th death anniversary of acclaimed ghazal singer Parvez Mehdi was observed on Friday.

Born on August 14, 1947, in Lahore, Mehdi was introduced to classical music at an early age. He received formal training from Ustad JA Farooq and was later mentored by the legendary Mehdi Hassan, whose influence shaped much of his artistic journey.

Throughout a career that spanned three decades, Parvez Mehdi performed a wide array of ghazals and songs, earning recognition for his emotional depth and technical mastery.

He recorded and performed hundreds of compositions that continue to be cherished by fans of traditional music.

In acknowledgment of his contribution to Pakistan’s cultural heritage, the Government of Pakistan honored him with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, one of the country’s highest civilian awards.

Parvez Mehdi passed away on August 29, 2005, in Lahore at the age of 58.

On his death anniversary, fans and fellow musicians remembered him not only for his musical talent but also for his dedication to preserving the ghazal tradition.
