New York: A United Nations has urged Israel to “end unlawful killings” against the Palestinian population.

“The use of military tactics and weapons in law enforcement contexts, the use of unnecessary or disproportionate force, and the enforcement of broad, arbitrary and discriminatory movement restrictions that affect Palestinians are extremely troubling,” UN rights chief Volker Turk said in a statement.

Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man during an overnight raid on Ramallah, seat of the Palestinian Authority in the occupied West Bank, the territory’s health ministry has said.

The Israeli military said troops shot at “assailants (who) hurled explosive devices, Molotov cocktails, rocks, and opened fire at Israeli security forces” across the territory.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said its medics treated eight people for gunshot wounds.

Israel’s military used the wrong type of munition to strike the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza earlier this week, compounding the death toll, according to an Israeli military official, Al Jazeera reports citing the Times of Israel.

“The type of munition did not match the nature of the attack, causing extensive collateral damage which could have been avoided,” the official admitted.
