Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): A local court in Islamabad approved a three-day physical remand of Lieutenant General (retired) Amjad Shoaib following his arrest after a magistrate registered a case against him on charges of inciting the public against state institutions.

The retired military officer was presented in the court of Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah
During today's proceedings, the prosecutor levelled accusations on the former military man for spreading hatred among different groups through his comments on mainstream media and urged court for his physical remand.

The defense counsel, however, opposed the physical remand and after a few arguments, and argued that his speech has not violated any law. He also maintained that Lt Gen (retd) Amjad Shoaib is a war veteran who took part in the 1965 and 1971 wars.

After the arguments, the court against the prosecution’s request for a seven-day physical remand, granted police a three-day physical remand of Lt Gen (retd) Shoaib and ordered to produce him before the court on March 2.

Police arrested Lieutenant General (retired) Amjad Shoaib on Monday morning on charges of inciting the public against national institutions.
