Islamabad (Web Desk): Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has stated that currently, there is a flood situation in three major rivers of the country, which has affected several areas.
He said that under the instructions of the Field Marshal, Pakistan Army soldiers and officers are at the forefront of rescue and relief operations.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad alongside Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, the DG ISPR informed that two soldiers have been martyred during the ongoing relief operations.
He added that rescue operations are underway via boats in Kartarpur, and the Karakoram Highway has also been fully reopened.
Federal Minister Attaullah Tarar provided details of the situation, stating that the rivers Sutlej, Chenab, and Ravi are currently experiencing flooding conditions.
At Ganda Singh Wala on the Sutlej River, the water flow is continuously increasing. In the Chenab River, the situation is critical from Marala to Head Khanki and then towards Qadirabad, where the water flow has exceeded 1 million cusecs.
The situation in the Ravi River at Jassar and Shahdara locations is comparatively better, but monitoring continues. He stated that there is full coordination between NDMA, Punjab Disaster Management Authority, and district administrations, and local authorities have been instructed to evacuate people in a timely manner.
