Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched a landmark healthcare initiative titled the “CM Insulin for Diabetes” program, aimed at providing vital support to children suffering from Type-I congenital diabetes.
Under this program, children diagnosed with the condition will receive insulin and essential diabetic care supplies free of cost, delivered directly to their homes.
The Chief Minister formally inaugurated the scheme by introducing the ‘CM Insulin Card,’ which will serve as a verification tool for beneficiaries and enable Pakistan Post riders to deliver medical supplies under a regulated cold chain system. The first phase of the program will benefit 1,500 children across Punjab.
In a heartfelt gesture reflecting her personal commitment, CM Maryam Nawaz visited the homes of several young patients to hand-deliver insulin cards. She visited Wasay Adnan, a diabetic child in Sabzazar Q-Block, and provided him with his insulin card along with a glucometer, insulin, blood sugar testing strips, and needles.
Deeply moved by his condition—being diabetic since birth and the youngest of three siblings—she expressed warmth and empathy by embracing his grandmother and promising to gift him a car.
She also visited Zainab Waheed and Zain Shahzad in Jamil Town to deliver their insulin cards and supplies. During her visit, she took time to speak with the children and their families, offering affection and concern. She directed officials to arrange an eye check-up and treatment for Zain Shahzad.
The public response to her visits was overwhelmingly positive. Local residents came out in large numbers, gathering on rooftops and streets to welcome her. Young girls showered her with flower petals, and she cheerfully responded to requests for selfies.
Elderly women offered prayers for her well-being and success, visibly touched by her compassionate outreach.
The chief minister emphasized that this initiative is a response to the pressing needs of families struggling with the financial and emotional burden of managing diabetes in young children.
She acknowledged the pain parents endure and stated that this effort is part of the broader “Sehatmand Punjab” vision, which prioritizes the health and well-being of every child.
For the first time, children are receiving not only insulin but also glucometers and testing strips, ensuring more comprehensive care.
She underscored that children are the future of the nation and reaffirmed her government’s commitment to dedicating every possible resource to their health.
The insulin delivery system is supported by a mobile app used by Pakistan Post riders to scan and verify each CM Insulin Card before delivery.
Each child will receive a three-month supply of insulin, and continued eligibility requires quarterly check-ups at designated hospitals. Children can be enrolled in the program through NCD Clinics, Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics, or by calling the Healthline at 1033.
Regular follow-ups at district or tehsil-level healthcare facilities are mandatory to ensure ongoing support.
This pioneering program marks a significant step in public healthcare, addressing the growing concern over the rising number of diabetes cases among children in Punjab.
