President Zardari, PM Shehbaz vow to make Pakistan free of drugs

Islamabad (Web Desk): The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is being marked today across the globe including Pakistan.

The day aims to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.

The theme of the day this year is 'The evidence is clear: invest in prevention'.
In his message on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, President Asif Ali Zardari has called for curbing the flow of drugs into society, especially within educational institutions, by targeting drug suppliers and peddlers.

The president said that drug production and illicit trafficking not only immensely harm our youth and their families, but are also a potential source of financing for criminal and terrorist elements,” he said.

“Law enforcing agencies should adopt proactive measures and take strict actions against persons involved in drug trafficking,” the president said.

He urged to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse at the individual, family, and community levels, prioritizing prevention and treatment.

“I am sure that through our collective efforts, we can achieve a drug-free Pakistan,” President Zardari said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message on International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, said that the government has placed utmost priority on addressing the issue of drug abuse and is taking effective measures to combat illicit trafficking.

The prime minister expressed firm determination to strengthen action and cooperation to collectively achieve the goal of a drug free society.
