DPM Ishaq Dar clarifies his remarks regarding Aafia Siddiqui case

Islamabad (Web Desk): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has issued a clarification regarding his recent remarks about Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.

In a post on social media, Dar stated that his comments during a session at the Atlantic Council in Washington were taken out of context. He explained that while responding to a question about Imran Khan’s legal proceedings, he referred to Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s case as an example, which has now been misunderstood.

Dar emphasized that during PML-N governments, consistent diplomatic and legal efforts were made to secure Dr. Aafia’s release, and such efforts will continue until the matter is resolved.

He further noted that every country, whether it is Pakistan or the United States, has its own legal and judicial procedures, which must be respected.

The Foreign Minister reaffirmed that the government of Pakistan’s stance on Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release is clear and unwavering.

It is worth mentioning that during his talk at the Atlantic Council, Dar had stated that fair legal processes are underway in Pakistan and that political narratives should not overshadow judicial matters. He drew a parallel with Aafia Siddiqui’s case in the U.S., highlighting that such legal outcomes are part of a judicial system and should not automatically be seen as unjust.
