Washington (Web Desk): US State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus has termed talks between Prime Minister Imran Khan and US President Donald Trump as successful.
Briefing the newsmen in Washington, she said this was the first meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Trump, adding that it is time to build upon the successful meeting.
Ortagus stated, “I would note one of the things that the prime minister says that he vowed to urge the Taliban to negotiate with the Afghan Government. We are committed to peace in Afghanistan. We think that was an important step,” she stated.
The spokesperson said that several issues were discussed in the meeting between PM Imran and President.
She added that the meeting gave a chance for the president and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to meet with PM Imran Khan and ‘to build a personal connection and rapport.’
During his three-day visit to the US, Prime Minister Imran Khan held talks with US President Donald Trump, met Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, members of Congress and addressed a think-tank.
The Afghan peace process remained at the top of the agenda during his meetings with members of the Trump administration.
