Murree (Web Desk): Murree police have issued a travel warning in light of a severe snowstorm expected to hit the hill station from Monday evening through Tuesday evening.
Dr. Mohammad Raza Tanveer Sapra, the District Police Officer (DPO) of Murree, stated that heavy snowfall is likely to disrupt road conditions, urging both tourists and residents to refrain from traveling to Murree during the night. He cautioned that the dropping temperatures would lead to the formation of “black ice” — a dangerously slippery, glass-like layer that can cause severe traction loss and render vehicle brakes ineffective.
The DPO highlighted the added difficulty of snow-clearing operations after dark and in dense fog, which would heighten the risk for motorists. He also announced that no vehicles would be allowed to enter Murree without snow chains on their tyres.
Motorists are advised to fully fuel their vehicles before departure and ensure that all mechanical components, including brakes, wipers, heaters, and defoggers, are in working order. Additionally, drivers should keep their speeds low on snow-covered roads and maintain at least a 50-metre distance from the vehicle ahead.
In a further safety reminder, the DPO emphasized that vehicle heaters should be used with windows slightly open to prevent oxygen depletion, which could lead to fatalities. During poor visibility conditions, drivers are encouraged to use fog lights and hazard lights, and avoid parking on highways or slopes to prevent obstructing snow-clearing efforts.
Police have urged all travelers to follow the instructions provided by officers stationed at checkpoints. In case of emergencies or accidents, citizens are instructed to immediately contact the police helpline at 15.
