New York (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday held a meeting with Prince Rahim Aga Khan-V, during which he acknowledged the Ismaili community’s longstanding role in Pakistan’s socioeconomic progress, particularly its strong tradition of public service and civic participation.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The prime minister praised Prince Rahim’s continued efforts to maintain Pakistan’s longstanding cordial and constructive ties with the community and expressed Pakistan’s resolve to work closely with him in pursuit of common goals related to peace, stability and development.
Welcoming Prince Rahim, PM Shehbaz warmly recalled their earlier meeting during the prince’s visit to Pakistan earlier this year.
He also appreciated the valuable contributions of Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN)-affiliated institutions towards financial inclusion, tourism promotion, cultural preservation and community-led economic empowerment.

PM Shehbaz stressed the importance of making greater use of opportunities for cooperation in these fields to support sustainable and inclusive economic and social development across Pakistan.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan reciprocated the prime minister’s warm remarks and commended his efforts to promote peace and stability in the region at a time when conflict had spread across the wider area.
He reiterated his commitment to further developing the enduring partnership between Pakistan and the AKDN.
Prince Rahim also expressed his willingness to broaden cooperation on a range of human development programmes, with particular emphasis on healthcare, education, climate resilience and sustainable socioeconomic progress for the people of Pakistan.
PM Shehbaz, meanwhile, invited Prince Rahim to make regular visits to Pakistan, saying such engagements would help further strengthen the longstanding bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two sides.
