Islamabad (Web Desk): Armed attackers launched an ambush on three prison vans in Islamabad that were transporting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers, government officials, and police personnel involved in the D-Chowk protest case.
According to reports, a group of 82 individuals, detained during recent protests at D-Chowk, was being transported to Attock Jail following their court appearances.
Among those in the prison vans were PTI MPAs Anwar Zeb, Liaquat, and Yasir Qureshi, along with government staff and police officers, as confirmed by police sources.
As per a police official, armed assailants ambushed the vans at Sangjani, where they had apparently been waiting. The attackers shot at the tyres of the vehicles, forcing them to stop.
Several police officers onboard were injured in the incident and were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Speaking to a private news channel, Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi said that all inmates who attempted to flee during the attack, including PTI MPAs, have been recaptured.
“The security officials apprehended four individuals from the group of 18-20 attackers, including the son of an MPA and a policeman,” the Islamabad IGP added.
