Tehran (Web Desk): Iran has rejected a United States (US)-proposed ceasefire plan aimed at easing ongoing tensions in the Middle East, describing the offer as “inappropriate.”
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs adopted a firm stance, making it clear that any ceasefire agreement would only be possible on the basis of conditions set by Tehran.
In an exclusive interview with Iran’s Press TV, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that Iran had carefully reviewed the American proposals but found them unsuitable under the current circumstances.
"We cannot allow President Trump to determine the timing of the end of the war. We have had a highly destructive experience with American diplomacy, which can no longer be trusted," he stated.
Baghaei further emphasized that Iran’s defensive operations would continue until its demands are met.
These include, an immediate halt to the killing of Iranian officials and attacks on Iran as well as other resistance groups in the region, a comprehensive assessment of wartime damages along with firm guarantees for compensation, recognition of Iran’s full sovereignty over its territorial waters and the Strait of Hormuz, and international assurances to prevent any future outbreak of conflict.
He also revealed that over the past nine months, Iran had been attacked twice at moments when Tehran was actively engaged in negotiations over its nuclear program.
He described these actions as a “betrayal of diplomacy” and added that there are currently no talks or negotiations taking place between Iran and the United States.
Iranian officials have also conveyed through regional mediators that they will not back down from defending their country, and that progress toward a ceasefire will remain impossible unless their conditions are fulfilled.
