Islamabad (Web Desk): The United Kingdom (UK) has introduced a modern digital e-Visa system for Pakistani tourists, eliminating the need for traditional visa stickers on passports and shifting the entire verification process to an online platform.
Under the new system, visa approvals will no longer be issued in the form of physical endorsements pasted into passports. Instead, successful applicants will receive digital confirmation via email, and their visa status will be recorded electronically.
British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, shared details of the initiative, explaining that applicants will no longer need to revisit the visa application center to collect their passports after submitting their applications.
Travelers will complete the visa form online and will only be required to visit the visa center once to provide biometric data.
Once approved, the visa record will be accessible through the applicant’s online account with UK Visas and Immigration.
As part of the updated process, successful applicants will be issued a unique “share code.”
This code can be presented at border checkpoints and other relevant authorities to verify immigration status.
According to the High Commissioner, the primary objective of the initiative is to minimize the risk of lost or damaged documents while strengthening the overall security and reliability of the immigration system.
Jane Marriott described the transition as a positive and welcome development, noting that travel to the UK has now become simpler, safer, and faster for Pakistani citizens.
She further clarified that the digital system had already been operating successfully for student and work visa categories over the past year and has now been extended to include general tourist visas.
The paperless system is expected to save time for Pakistani applicants and enhance transparency in visa processing, marking a significant step toward a more efficient and secure travel framework between the two countries.
