Islamabad (Web Desk): A strong earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Wednesday, sparking fear among residents in several areas.
According to the seismological centre, the quake originated in Afghanistan’s Hindukush region and was recorded at a depth of 114 kilometres.
The tremors were felt in major urban centres including Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Swabi, as well as in surrounding localities.
Residents in Bajaur, Diamer, and nearby regions also reported feeling the shaking. Authorities confirmed that, so far, there have been no reports of injuries or damage to property.
This earthquake comes just days after a similar seismic event affected parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
Earlier on February 20, a 5.6-magnitude quake struck the two provinces, with tremors experienced in cities including Peshawar and Islamabad.
Officials said the epicentre of that earlier earthquake was also in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region, at a depth of 73 kilometres.
