Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of minority communities, affirming that Pakistan belongs equally to all its citizens, regardless of their faith.
He made these remarks while addressing a Christmas celebration at the Prime Minister’s Housee in Islamabad.
PM Shehbaz reflected on the teachings of Jesus Christ (Hazrat Isa A.S.), portraying him as an enduring symbol of compassion, service, and peace.
The premier emphasized that the message of love, justice, and tolerance conveyed by Jesus Christ remains highly relevant today and resonates with the core values of Islam and the vision upon which Pakistan was founded.
PM Shehbaz paid heartfelt tribute to the Christian community for its historic and ongoing contributions to Pakistan, particularly in education, healthcare, defence, and the justice system.
He specifically honored former Chief Justice Justice A.R. Cornelius for his role in strengthening the judiciary, Air Commodore Cecil Chaudhry (Shaheed) for his bravery in defending the nation, and Dr. Ruth Pfau for her lifelong humanitarian work, especially in combating leprosy.
PM Shehbaz also remembered Haroon William (Shaheed), highlighting the sacrifices made by Christian citizens in protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty alongside their fellow citizens.
Recalling the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the prime minister highlighted that the founder guaranteed complete religious freedom and equal legal rights for all citizens, ensuring that people could worship freely in churches, temples, gurdwaras, and mosques without fear. He stressed that these principles are enshrined in the Constitution and continue to guide the state’s policies.
Assuring the Christian community of the government’s protection, Shehbaz Sharif warned that no form of injustice, discrimination, or violence against minorities would be tolerated.
He said that whether Christian, Hindu, or Sikh, no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands, and the state would ensure the safety of life, property, and religious dignity for every citizen.
PM Shehbaz further emphasized that Islam teaches respect for all faiths and forbids offending the beliefs of others, underlining that interfaith harmony and mutual respect are essential for the nation’s unity and progress.
Extending warm Christmas greetings, the prime minister noted the special significance of December 25, marking not only the birth of Jesus Christ but also the birthday of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
PM Shehbaz prayed for peace, prosperity, and national harmony while congratulating the Christian community on the occasion.
The ceremony was attended by Archbishop Dr. Joseph Arshad, bishops, members of the clergy, diplomats including the Ambassador of the Vatican, federal ministers, parliamentarians, and other distinguished guests.
