Islamabad (Web Desk): Widespread rainfall is expected across several regions of Pakistan, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicting thundershowers accompanied by strong winds over Kashmir and northeastern Punjab on Tuesday.
Other areas such as upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southern Punjab, and parts of northeastern and southern Balochistan may also experience scattered showers.
According to the PMD, heavy rainfall is likely in various locations within Kashmir and northeastern Punjab, raising the risk of landslides and mudslides in mountainous areas. These hazards are particularly concerning for districts including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur between tonight and August 26. The resulting disruptions could lead to blocked roads and limited accessibility in these hilly regions.
There is also potential for flash flooding in local streams and nullahs due to intense rainfall, posing additional challenges to both rural and urban communities.
Low-lying parts of cities such as Narowal, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, and Lahore may face urban flooding, prompting warnings for residents to remain vigilant.
Moreover, the forecast includes possibilities of windstorms and lightning, which may damage infrastructure such as electricity poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels, particularly those in poor condition.
In Islamabad, the weather is expected to remain humid and partly cloudy, with a 40 percent chance of thundershowers during the early morning and nighttime hours. Across Sindh, most districts will continue to experience humid and partially overcast conditions, although isolated showers might develop in areas like Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Tharparkar, Umerkot, and Sanghar.
Balochistan will similarly see partly cloudy skies and muggy weather, with rain and thunderstorms forecast in Barkhan, Zhob, Musakhel, Loralai, Awaran, and Lasbela. Meanwhile, much of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to remain hot and humid, although rain and thundershowers are anticipated in specific locations including Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Mansehra, Peshawar, Kohat, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, and Waziristan.
In Punjab, a mix of cloudiness and humidity will dominate the forecast. Showers are likely in several cities including Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Chakwal, Jhelum, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Some northeastern districts could also experience isolated heavy downpours.
The weather in Kashmir is predicted to be cloudy with intermittent showers, while Gilgit-Baltistan will likely remain partly cloudy without significant precipitation.
Over the past 24 hours, various regions reported sporadic rainfall. Notable measurements included 62 mm in Kasur, 40 mm in Larkana, 29 mm in Dir, 19 mm in Malam Jabba, 13 mm in Narowal, 11 mm at Lahore’s airport, 9 mm in Rawalakot, and 6 mm in Bagrote. Elsewhere, the weather remained dry and notably humid.
Temperatures soared in parts of Balochistan, where Dalbandin and Nokundi each recorded highs of 41 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Panjgur at 40 degrees, underscoring the persistent heat affecting many regions outside the rainy zones.
