Moderate to heavy rainfall continues to wreak havoc in Karachi

Karachi (Staff Report/Agencies): Moderate to heavy rainfall on Tuesday once again inundated streets and roads of Karachi and disrupted traffic flow, making the lives of people difficult.

Many roads of the metropolis are inundated as commuters face severe issues due to choked or clogged storm drains.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in Karachi. The current rain spell will continue till Thursday (August 27), the office forecasted. The PMD has also issued an urban flooding warning for the metropolis.

According to data from the Met department, the highest amount of rainfall, 72 millimetres, was recorded at Gulshan-i-Hadeed while Nazimabad recorded 51.6mm, North Karachi 37mm, Surjani Town 25.6mm, Landhi 11.5mm, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Base Faisal 11mm, Jinnah Terminal 9.6mm while University Road received 8.8mm of rainfall.

The city's electric utility, K-Electric, urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures and asked people to keep a safe distance from broken wires, electric poles and pole-mounted transformers (PMT).
