Islamabad (Web Desk): Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has reaffirmed his country's strong backing for Pakistan's efforts aimed at promoting peace and regional stability.
During a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Qatari leader congratulated Pakistan on its successful diplomatic initiative that resulted in the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran. He commended the prime minister's leadership and role in advancing the peace process.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Amir for Qatar's unwavering support, noting that the diplomatic breakthrough was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the valuable contributions of friendly nations, including Qatar.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the first round of technical-level talks held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, and agreed that the positive momentum should be maintained to ensure the success of the negotiations.
They also emphasized the need to protect the dialogue process from elements seeking to undermine it.
During the conversation, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani extended his heartfelt condolences over the death of a Pakistani national in the fire incident at the Barzan gas facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
The prime minister appreciated the gesture and praised the Qatari leadership for hosting a large Pakistani community in the country, which now numbers more than 300,000 people.
Recalling his recent visits to Doha, Shehbaz Sharif renewed his invitation to the Amir of Qatar to visit Pakistan. In response, Sheikh Tamim expressed his desire to travel to Pakistan later this year for discussions on bilateral cooperation and key regional issues.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact and continue coordination on matters of mutual interest in the days ahead.
