International Day of Women in Diplomacy observed

Islamabad (Web Desk): International Day of Women in Diplomacy is being observed today (Monday) across the globe including Pakistan.

The theme of the day is "women's leadership in multilateral diplomacy".

On the occasion of this International Day For Women In Diplomacy, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in a post on X, said that throughout our history, Pakistani women have made tremendous contributions in the field of diplomacy.

Stalwarts like Begum Raana Laiquat Ali Khan, Madam Shaista Ikramullah, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and many others broke barriers and set the path for hundreds of women diplomats who continue to represent Pakistan at the international stage with grace and dignity.

He applauded them all and thanked them for their services and contributions!

In a message on the occasion of International Day of Women in Diplomacy, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz said that the provincial government is committed to empower women and promote gender equality.

“This day is marked to credit women for their extraordinary services in the field of diplomacy,” she said, adding that women' role in diplomacy is crucial to promote peace.

The Punjab CM said that Pakistan's renowned diplomat Dr Maliha Lodhi and other women played key roles in the country's diplomatic achievements.

As per the United Nations (UN), the International Day of Women in Diplomacy is mentioned on its website. "At the United Nations General Assembly’s 76th Session, the General Assembly by consensus declared the 24th of June each year to be the International Day of Women in Diplomacy. By the resolution (A/RES/76/269), the Assembly invited all Member States, United Nations organisations, non-governmental groups, academic institutions and associations of women diplomats - where they exist- to observe the Day in a manner that each considers most appropriate, including through education and public awareness raising," the UN said.
