Islamabad (Web Desk): An eight -member joint investigation team (JIT) will investigate the suicide blast occurred in Sector I-10 of the federal capital on Friday.
As per the notification issued on Saturday, apart from Superintendent of Police (SP) Industrial Area, SDPO Vegetable Market, an investigation officer, and two officers from intelligence departments will also be part of the JIT.
The JIT will conduct a thorough investigation into the blast and prepare a report.
Earlier, a case of the suicide bombing was lodged at the Sabzi Mandi police station in the federal capital late Friday under various sections, including charges of terrorism and murder.
On Friday, a policeman was martyred and at least six others, including four policemen, sustained injuries in a suicide blast in Islamabad's sector I-10/4.
According to Deputy Inspector General of Police Sohail Zafar Chattha, the police had spotted a
"suspicious vehicle" in the I-10/4 sector at around 10:15am with a man and a woman inside which was stopped by the Eagle Squad.
“The two came out of the vehicle. The man with long hair, while being checked by the officers, went inside the vehicle for some reason, and detonated himself," the DIG said.
However, later in the day, the Islamabad police tweeted that no evidence regarding the presence of a woman was found during the post-mortem and subsequent investigation.
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police identified the martyred policeman as Head Constable Adeel Hussain.
"The terrorists wanted to explode in a densely populated area to attack the police and public,” they said.
Immediately after the blast was reported, the Islamabad inspector-general issued orders for a “security red alert” across the city.
In a tweet, the police said strict action will be taken against vehicles with “non-specimen” number plates, adding that no one will be allowed to carry arms.
It also advised residents to carry documents of identification while travelling.
