Riyadh (Web Desk/Agencies): Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh has passed away, according to a report carried by the Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extended their sympathies to his family, the citizens of the Kingdom, and Muslims around the world, honoring his lifelong dedication to Islamic scholarship.
His funeral prayer is scheduled to take place after Asr at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
In addition, King Salman has directed that prayers in absentia be held at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and across mosques throughout the country.
The Royal Court emphasized that his death marks the loss of a renowned religious authority who rendered valuable service to Islam and its followers. Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh was appointed as Grand Mufti in 1999 by King Fahd, following the passing of Sheikh Abdul Aziz Ibn Baz.
He also chaired the Council of Senior Scholars and was responsible for delivering sermons during the Hajj season.
