Lahore (Web Desk): The Lahore police have intensified operations against violent activists of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), detaining 954 individuals involved in recent unrest.
According to police officials, raids are continuing to apprehend the remaining violent demonstrators, whose number is estimated to be around 3,500.
The law enforcement authorities stated that the arrests aim to restore public order and curb violent acts across the city.
They added that further operations are underway to bring all wanted individuals to justice.
Earlier today, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bhukhari said that a decision regarding the possible ban TLP is expected shortly, adding that the final call on the future of the extremist outfit will be taken by the federal government.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, the minister warned that no individual or group will be allowed to challenge the writ of the state or take the law into their own hands.
Bukhari asserted that peace in Punjab will not be compromised under any circumstances. She cautioned that those found involved in forcibly shutting down markets or inciting violence will face terrorism charges.
The provincial minister also announced that the government has resolved to make Punjab a weapon-free province. She revealed that the licenses of 26 arms dealers have already been revoked and that no new weapon licenses will be issued in the future.
Bukhari further said that all licensed weapons must be registered at service centers, emphasizing that the notorious culture of armed displays and gangsterism will no longer be tolerated.
She reiterated that such practices have no place in the Punjab of today.
