Islamabad (Web Desk): Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has announced that for the first time, the government is implementing concrete measures to tackle the growing menace of smog in the region.

Speaking at a key event, the minister emphasized that smog not only affects public health but also severely disrupts daily life, making it essential to address the root causes of this environmental challenge.

Maryam Aurangzeb highlighted that smog, particularly during the winter months, is a persistent issue, causing respiratory problems and hindering normal activities. She stressed that the government is fully committed to improving air quality and reducing pollution, which poses a major threat to the well-being of citizens.

The Minister outlined several initiatives aimed at reducing smog and improving the Air Quality Index (AQI). These measures are part of a broader strategy to tackle air pollution and create a healthier environment. Among the proposed actions are stricter regulations on industrial emissions, stricter vehicle emissions standards, and an increased focus on green spaces to reduce pollution levels.

Maryam Aurangzeb further revealed that the government is also investing in modern technology and air monitoring systems to keep track of pollution levels. This data will help formulate targeted policies to combat smog and its adverse effects more effectively.

The Minister emphasized that these immediate actions are just the beginning, and the government is focused on long-term solutions to ensure sustained improvements in air quality. “Our ultimate goal is to create a healthier and more sustainable environment for future generations,” she said, stressing the importance of community involvement in maintaining cleaner air and reducing pollution.

Highlighting the public health risks associated with smog, including respiratory issues, cardiovascular diseases, and long-term health complications, Maryam Aurangzeb called for collective efforts from all sectors of society. She noted that addressing air pollution is not just a governmental responsibility but a shared task involving citizens, industries, and local authorities.

The Minister's remarks were met with strong support from environmentalists and public health advocates, who have long urged the government to take decisive action against air pollution. The measures announced are seen as a positive step towards reducing the region’s reliance on harmful industrial practices and motor vehicle emissions, which are major contributors to air pollution.

With these measures in place, the government aims to see a tangible improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the coming months. The authorities plan to review the effectiveness of the initiatives periodically and make adjustments as needed to ensure maximum impact.

As part of these efforts, the Minister also called for collaboration with international environmental bodies to adopt best practices and innovative solutions to combat smog and air pollution on a global scale.

The government’s commitment to combating smog is expected to provide relief to millions of citizens who have long struggled with the adverse effects of poor air quality. The ongoing projects, if successful, could set a precedent for other regions facing similar environmental challenges.
