California (Web Desk): Google has released an urgent security update for its widely used web browser, Google Chrome, addressing a critical vulnerability that could impact nearly 3.5 billion users. This flaw, a zero-day vulnerability, is already being exploited by hackers.
Experts have identified the issue as CVE-2025-6554, which stems from a "type confusion bug" in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript and WebAssembly engine. This vulnerability allows hackers to execute malicious code on a user’s system simply by opening a specially crafted HTML page.
According to Google, this is the sixth zero-day vulnerability discovered in 2025 and has already been used in active cyberattacks. Prior vulnerabilities, including CVE-2025-4664 and CVE-2025-5419, have also been reported.
Google urges users to immediately verify if their browser version is 138.0.7204.96 or newer by navigating to Settings → About Chrome.
After updating, users are advised to restart the browser to ensure the security patch is properly applied.
Organizations and companies are strongly encouraged to update all systems immediately and monitor any unusual network or browser activity. Experts also recommend avoiding visiting untrusted websites until the new patch is installed.
