Islamabad (Web Desk): An accountability court in Islamabad on Monday acquitted former finance minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ishaq Dar in assets beyond means case.

Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir earlier today reserved the court verdict, which was later announced by court in afternoon.

During today's hearing, the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) prosecutor Afzal Qureshi submitted the written response that there is no evidence of corruption against Dar, so they do not want to proceed with the case.

Upon this, Judge Muhammad Bashir asked the prosecution to submit a written reply, remarking that NAB might change its viewpoint later.

In a written reply, NAB said that there is no objection to the acquittal of other accused including former minister.

The NAB prosecutor further said that we have given arguments on merit, let the court pronounce the decision.

It should be noted that the Supreme Court (SC) had ordered that all cases closed after the NAB amendments should be reopened, since the amendments were against the constitution.

Following SC order, the case against Dar was repened.

However, Dar’s lawyers told the court that he had actually been acquitted by the court and had not benefited from the NAB amendments.

The lawyer had also argued in previous hearings that no evidence of corruption had been found against his client. The statement was later backed by NAB’s prosecutor in Monday’s hearing before the verdict was announced.
