Karachi (Web Desk): The 18th death anniversary of renowned music director Nisar Bazmi was observed on Saturday with fond remembrance and reflection on his remarkable contribution to the world of music.

Born in December 1924 in the Khandesh region of Bombay (now Mumbai), Bazmi’s journey to musical greatness was anything but conventional.

He hailed from a family with no artistic background, yet his fervent love for music pushed him to seek knowledge beyond his immediate surroundings.

His journey began at the age of 13 when he caught the attention of the legendary Khan Saheb Aman Ali Khan, who recognized his deep interest and, without hesitation, took him under his tutelage.

Bazmi’s passion for music knew no bounds, and by the time he was just a teenager, he had already mastered several instruments.

His early years were marked by an unyielding dedication to his craft, which eventually led him to be employed by All India Radio in 1939.

Nisar Bazmi’s first foray into music composition came in 1944 when he wrote music for a drama broadcasted on Bombay Radio Station, marking the beginning of a prolific career that would span decades.

He made his film debut in 1946 with the music of Jamna Paar, and over the course of his career in India, he composed for over 40 films, though only 28 of them saw release during his time there.

After his move to Pakistan, the remaining films were finally released in India.

In Pakistan, Bazmi’s musical genius found an even broader audience.

His first major composition in the country was the timeless classic "Mohabbat Mei Tere" for the 1964 film Aisa Bhi Hota Hai, sung by Ahmed Rushdi and Noor Jahan. This marked the beginning of a series of unforgettable songs that would define an era of Pakistani cinema.

Bazmi’s collaborations with legendary voices such as Runa Laila and Mehdi Hassan showcased his versatility, but it was his work with Ahmed Rushdi that solidified his place as a musical legend.

His ability to blend melody, emotion, and lyrical depth set him apart, earning him a legacy that extended far beyond his compositions.

Known for his mastery in the art of music composition, Nisar Bazmi also took on the role of mentor, shaping the careers of many modern composers, with Badr uz Zaman being one of his closest protégés. His contributions were recognized with numerous Nigar Awards, celebrating his impeccable command over the craft of music composition.

Nisar Bazmi passed away on March 22, 2007, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire musicians and composers to this day. His music, rich with emotion and timeless appeal, remains etched in the hearts of those who experienced its magic.
