Manila (Web Desk):Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has welcomed the adoption of the Manila Plan of Action 2026-2036, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring its effective implementation.
Addressing the 33rd ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting in Manila, Philippines, Ishaq Dar said Pakistan remains fully committed to the objectives and principles of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
He stressed the need to renew collective efforts to establish a peaceful, inclusive and resilient region based on sovereign equality, mutual respect and dialogue.
Referring to the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, the Deputy Prime Minister said Pakistan continues to support its core principles of peaceful coexistence, dialogue and mutual respect.
Ishaq Dar said the ASEAN Regional Forum has become a key pillar of regional security architecture and emphasized that it must continue strengthening its role in preventive diplomacy by adopting a dynamic, forward-looking and action-oriented approach.
Discussing the situation in the Middle East, he said recent developments in the Gulf region have affected all countries, adding that Pakistan has made every possible effort to promote peace and stability in the region.
He appreciated the trust placed in Pakistan by the United States, Iran, Gulf countries and other partners in facilitating diplomatic efforts, saying that progress achieved through dialogue has created an opportunity to move towards lasting peace.
The Deputy Prime Minister urged all stakeholders to show restraint, honour their commitments and continue peaceful engagement.
He expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts would help restore regional stability, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume normal maritime activities.
Ishaq Dar called on the international community to continue supporting peace initiatives through dialogue, diplomacy and constructive engagement.
Highlighting the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, he said unresolved disputes, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir issue between Pakistan and India, remain a major source of regional instability.
He reiterated Pakistan’s stance for a peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with the UN Charter, relevant Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The Deputy Prime Minister also voiced concern over India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, accusing New Delhi of attempting to use water resources as a tool in violation of international obligations.
He urged the international community, especially ASEAN Regional Forum members, to support peaceful solutions to key disputes and uphold international law.
Speaking about counterterrorism efforts, Ishaq Dar said Pakistan remains determined to combat terrorism in all its forms despite challenges, stressing the need for continued national efforts and international cooperation.
He called on the Afghan Taliban government and other groups supporting terrorism to prevent Afghan territory from being used against neighbouring countries or any other state.
The Deputy Prime Minister also urged ARF members to assist efforts aimed at ensuring Afghanistan’s soil is not used to threaten regional peace and security.
