Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during a meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott in Islamabad on Wednesday, reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to engage in constructive and result-oriented dialogue with India to resolve all outstanding issues.
The two sides exchanged views on a range of bilateral, regional, and global matters during the meeting.
The prime minister extended his warm regards to King Charles III and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, expressing his eagerness to meet with the UK leadership in the near future.
He also welcomed the UK government’s recent decision to restore Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, a move he said would ease the difficulties faced by the British Pakistani community and boost people-to-people connections.
He specifically acknowledged the British High Commissioner’s personal efforts in facilitating this decision.
Discussing the state of bilateral relations, the prime minister voiced satisfaction over the positive momentum in Pakistan-UK cooperation. He pointed out that the recent trade talks between the two countries held promising prospects for expanding mutually beneficial economic ties.
He also noted Pakistan’s active engagement with the UK at the United Nations Security Council, particularly during Pakistan's current tenure as the monthly President.
Regional developments in South Asia and the Middle East were also part of the conversation. The prime minister expressed appreciation for the UK’s diplomatic role in reducing tensions during past episodes of friction between Pakistan and India.
High Commissioner Marriott, in turn, thanked the Prime Minister for the meeting and provided an update on her recent visit to London, where she engaged in detailed discussions aimed at enhancing Pakistan-UK relations.
She commended the Pakistani government’s economic achievements over the past 18 months under
PM Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, noting substantial progress in key macroeconomic indicators.
The British High Commissioner also shared the UK’s assessment of current regional dynamics affecting South Asia and the Middle East.
